Please join us for an artist’s reception for Sara Gagan from 6-8 p.m. with an artist talk at 7 p.m.
Sara grew up I grew up in New York’s mid-Hudson Valley where, thanks to her great uncle Nick, there was some decent art on the walls of her childhood home. Much as she admired these mostly dark, ponderous representations of mountains, rivers, and pastures (with maybe a few distant cows—her favorite part!), they left her with a rather narrow view of art. Not being a 19th-century, academy-trained male, becoming an artist felt unachievable to her. Over time, however, it came to her that painting need not be limited to foreboding landscapes. Perhaps it was some kind of cosmic shift that led her to Hope almost 15 years ago. And here she happily lives, hikes, and paints.
Sara’s subjects span the spectrum from representational oil paintings to abstract using mixed media and oil mixed with wax.
